Fourteen year old Amber flees her homeland for far off Insula. She has no friends there, only a distant uncle. Her father had taught her to be smart and resourceful, but not how to live a life a girl is expected to lead. By chance she encounters a mysterious friend and from then on their lives are intertwined. As it turns out, widespread disaster overtakes Insula. Using her intelligence Amber navigates the troubled waters to help keep safe the people she cares for.
This book was a challenge, definitely outside my comfort zone. However once I got into it, I found it rewarding. It is always good to experiment and strive for new goals.
